DiY Decor #2 - Awesome Fridge Makeover

DiY Decor #2 - Awesome Fridge Makeover

I stumbled across this DIY fridge makeover, and think it is a great idea!  I will most definitely be considering taking this project on when I get back to school...

This is super cute!  It also works great to wall paper your fridge, or you can take a much simpler route and decal your fridge to look great like Jill and Kari at Babs Blog.  Or If you don't want to go through all the work covering a fridge all over, but still want this standard dorm room appliance to look a little less abrasive in your room, go for awesome magnets.  You can make your own or just buy some cute ones.

Above is a great tutorial for DIY magnets.  Just google DIY Fridge Magnets and you will get a whole bunch of super great tutorials.  Otherwise there are a bunch of great magnets to be found in dollar spot at Target or at craft stores such as Michaels.  So fear not, your fridge doesn't have to be this huge eyesore in your dorm room, it just might take a little creative thinking!

DiY Decor #1 - Bookshelf Update

DiY Decor #1 - Bookshelf Update
Making a dorm room look more fab than drab can be a challenge.  But in a room that small, even the littlest tweaks and additions can make a huge difference.  I'm a fan of do-it-yourselfing, and thought I'd start sharing some of my favorite finds.  This one is quick, easy, and cheap...

This is such an easy way to add some style to your room, not to mention cheap.  Apartment Therapy has a tutorial of how to make this fantastic bookcase.  This works for shelves and drawers as well.  All that you really need is some wrapping paper and tape.  Usually, you aren't allowed to paint or wallpaper anything in the dorms, but if you use tape this won't be permanent but it will make your new home look even homier.

The blogger below used fabric instead of wrapping paper, as you can see either looks fantastic:

A Bit of Bohemian

I'm a big fan of bohemian-chic, whether it be in clothes or decor.  Dictionary.com defines Bohemian as "a person, as an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices" or "gypsy." Considering these definitions it's not surprising that I love the style.  I was a gypsy for halloween when I was younger and wore a similar costume this past Halloween.  I also love to write, and I like to think that I act "free" when it comes to the conventional rules.

I may not be sure how well I fit the definition, but I'm definitely not much for the so-called classics when it comes to room decor,  I like to mix and match different styles when I can, but it is a hard thing to master for sure.  In any case, I would like to introduce my first ever inspiration board: Bohemian Chic

Small Space with Super Style

I love decorating and organization.  I have piles of Better Homes and Gardens special edition magazines with ideas for a home I won't have for years to come.  Trying to make a dorm room look like more than a mess of colors and junk can be challenging, but it is doable.  It's difficult to do much with a dorm room because of the limited space, and that is where organization comes in so very handy!  So if you have no organization skills, I suggest you get some.  But that is for another post.  Here are just a some of my favorite dorm decor that I have found via HGTV's Rate My Space:

Very cute and simple;  this space is very homey!

This is just incredibly impressive.  To have such a small area look so neat and put together is quite a feat and they did amazingly well.

I just really like how this area was arranged, with the desk at the foot of the bed and the makeshift shelving headboard.  The curtains are a great touch!  Those would come in handy during nap time!

Very organized under loft area;  the general idea is to put your desk underneath your loft, but this works amazingly well!  I also love the black curtains on the side so the area can be hid when/if it gets messy.

This is so very organized and neat!  I like how they put up a little divider between the bed and the desk to separate the areas out.

This is a great idea if you are going to have a roommate; my roommate and I tried this out at the last minute this past year and we wish we would have had it like that all year long!  Huge space saver.

AND MUCH MORE TO COME!!
